Torreón: ecotourism, culture and art

Every step in this beautiful city is to relive its preserved colonial past, an experience that will make you a participant on its history.

Torreón is one of the youngest cities in México; it is widely recognized for the successful industry and commerce that have consolidated in such a brief time.

If you plan to come to one of the cities that make up the “Comarca Lagunera”, you cannot miss the opportunity to visit the "Cristo de las Noas" during your visit, since this is the emblem of the city, with a height of 22 meters and it is the second largest in Latin America. A monument that impresses believers and onlookers who climb its 600 steps to admire it closely and have a panoramic view of the city.

After go over so many steps, it would be good to take a break at "Plaza de Armas", located in the downtown of the city, a pleasant place to take a break as well as to know more about Torreón. There you can also see its decorated fountains, the four metallic sculptures, the "Catedral del Carmen", the central kiosk where the municipal band usually plays and, perhaps its most distinctive symbol, "The Clock Tower".

Torreón is a city full of interest in culture and art, since it has a variety of museums, such as the "Museo Regional de la Laguna", where you can see many types of works of art.

Another option where you can know the history of the city is in the "Historical Museum of the House of the Hill" and in the "Museum of the Revolution"; or if it is your preference to learn about the metallurgical industry and cotton in museums, there are options such as: "Museo de los Metales Peñoles" and "Museo del Algodón".

In the late afternoon, we recommend you to visit the Cultural Underground Corridor "La Perla", this was an old irrigation canal of 1,200 meters that was found by accident in 2003.

Today, this space is a pleasant touristic location with several restaurants, bookstores, galleries and craft shops to spend a pleasant afternoon with a good company.

You can access to it at several points in the downtown and observe photographs on its walls that tell the story of Torreón as you go through it.

However, if what you are looking for is to venture into its recognized ecotourism you have options like: the "Sierra de Jimulco", undoubtedly an exceptional place for lovers of adventurous tourism, where you can perform activities such as mountain biking, hiking, climbing in rock and rappel.

Visiting the “Villa de Bilbao”, you can come across a wonderful experience knowing the "Dunas de Bilbao", a nature reserve where you can practice sports such as sandboarding and cycling, or simply camping to enjoy a pleasant mooning.
